Show your fee next to the result: formula cards in reports

Work it out inside the report.

If your agency is paid on results, your client probably wants to see your fee next to the result it came from: 20% of revenue, or 15% of ad spend as a management fee. Until now that meant working the number out in a spreadsheet and typing it into the report email or a note, for every client, every period.

A MetricsWatch report can now hold a formula card that works its figure out from another card on the same report.

How a formula card works

Add a Formula card to your report and fill in five things:

  • Source: a single-metric card already on the report, picked by its label. For example, Revenue.
  • Operation: add, subtract, multiply or divide.
  • Number: the figure to apply. For a 20% fee, that is 0.2.
  • Label: what your client sees, such as "Agency fee (20%)".
  • Format: currency, percent or a plain number.

While you edit, the editor shows the formula in plain form, such as "Revenue × 0.2", and tells you what is still missing before it is complete.

It reads like every other card

A formula card behaves like any other metric card. It shows this period, the change against the previous period and the arrow, in the report and in the report email.

A different number for every client

Each formula card holds its own number. One client's report can show 20% of revenue and another's 15% of ad spend, without a spreadsheet in between.

No made-up figures

If the source card has no data, or the formula would divide by zero, the formula card keeps its label and shows the same no-data message as any other card, never a guessed figure.
